Burn Remedy
For mild to moderate small burns, immediately apply a generous coating of cold mustard (Frenches works just fine) over the top of the burn and leave in place until it starts to dry out. You may need to carefully rinse the dried mustard off and re-apply for moderate burns. This reduces the amount of damage done to the skin and in turn reduces the size of the blister afterwords. My husband is a welder and learned of this little trick after getting a bad burn at work one day. The prescription burn cream they had at work did not work well, so he tried mustard instead. The prescription burn cream provided at work did not work any where near as well as mustard, other co-workers agreed. They now keep mustard in the work fridge instead of burn cream, and we use mustard on all of our "household" burns as well. It works great on small burns, up to about the size of a silver dollar, to reduce the heat quickly, preventing more damage to skin.
I just wish I had known this about 10 years ago when I had that little deep frying incident! ツ
*We do not know what it would do on a sunburn but I don't recommend using mustard on those. Definitely not recommended for larger burns or severe, deep burns.
